Very short Sunday blather

It’s another quiet day, I’m afraid.

Actually, I’m not afraid. I think we all need some quiet time to recharge the batteries which had been run down since the end of last season right up until the transfer deadline. Like little Duracell bunnies we were, wandering out into the desert banging our cymbals while other bunnies got left behind because of their inferior alkaline cell. Now we’re surrounded by scorpions (who are not better than Aaron Ramsey), and other creatures who might try to sting us on the hole, but meh to them, I say.

There are stories doing the rounds today about how new signing Mesut Ozil was a party boy and had girlfriends all over the place. Far be it for me to cast aspersions, but I wonder whose interest it serves to put those tales about? Could it be, that a club who had to shush their own fans for chanting Ozil’s name as they were unveiling the most expensive player of all time, might want to make it look as if there were other reasons for his departure other than the fact they’re broke and had to sell one of the best players in the world?

Would it go some way to placate their fans who bombarded every single picture on their official Facebook page of said new signing with the word ‘Ozil’ if they made it look as if he was some kind of villain rather than a wonderful player whose departure was publicly bemoaned by most of his teammates?

Evidence below (I have taken the liberty of removing the ugliness so you don’t have to witness it first thing on a Sunday morning):

Strikes me that when your fans are upset that you’ve spent £100m on a player from ‘some club nobody’s ever heard of‘, losing one of their favourites in the process, that you might use your well-worn contacts in the press to spin things a little so that you don’t look like such enormous chumps. Maybe that’s just me though. I can be quite cynical at times.

Meanwhile, Kieran Gibbs reacts to the Ozil signing here, while if you’ve missed @ArsenalGent‘s squad profiles he’s put up part 2, which was, funnily enough, preceded by part 1. HeisenBould is a piece of absolute genius.

Other than that it’s all quiet and although the last of the summer is well and truly gone now (boooo!), I think today is a day for doing things not related to Arsenal. For example, I have to hang a very large mirror on a wall. Unfortunately, I am to DIY what Gervinho is to open goals, so this could be fun.

Till tomorrow.
