Happy New Year

Morning.

It’s the last day of 2024, and as I look out the window, the sky is a striking shade of pink. Is that a good omen? I don’t know. I’m not a Skyologist.

What I do know is that there is no Arsenal news, I drank a bit too much red wine last night, and I wish I was asleep. Even though I was dreaming I was on a terrible train to a destination from which I could change trains and then get another train home. It was a lot of hassle, not helped by Madonna messing everything up with her inability to park her car correctly. On a train. I know.

So, tomorrow we can look ahead to our game against Brentford. There might be some team news a bit later or something. Now, I’d just like to take a moment to thank you all for being part of Arseblog for the last 12 months. Without you reading and listening and supporting what we do on Patreon, we’d be just shouting into the void and by their very nature voids are not great things. You never hear anyone make a great song about how much they love a good old fashioned void.

In seriousness though, thank you. From me and all the team. We have the extraordinary privilege of writing and talking about the Arsenal for a living, and we never take it for granted. We couldn’t do it without you, and we wouldn’t want to anyway. Let’s hope that 2024 can bring this team the success we all crave for it. The Arsenal experience has, over the last few years, been a lot of fun. I know there have been frustrations, that’s just part of sport, but we’ve come so close to winning something we looked a million miles away from not that long ago. That’s a good place to be, whatever else happens.

I do think sometimes it’s worth remembering that while we all want trophies and silverware, those are not the only way to measure the quality of a football team and its players/staff. But, obviously those things are the goal, and I sincerely hope that we can achieve them with this group of players and this manager. Right now, we’re active in four competitions, and hopefully we can go the distance in at least one of them. To see Arsenal win the title again would be incredible, and I wish this team durability, availability, full fitness, a bit of good luck here and there, and a wonderful January arrival of some kind.

To all of you, wherever you are in the world, I wish you health and happiness for 2025. Look after each other, look after yourselves, and fingers crossed we can all celebrate together in May (and beyond).

❤️

You can join us a bit later over on Patreon for a couple of podcasts too. We’ll be rounding up the Premier League action in The 30, and after that we’ll have a Brentford preview pod too.

More here tomorrow. Have a good one with your celebrations later, talk to you next year!
