Sunday round-up: Smith Rowe, a friendly, Havertz

Morning.

A very quick Sunday round-up for you, starting with Emile Smith Rowe who was part of the England U21 team which won the European Championships last night. They beat Spain 1-0, with a goal from Curtis Jones, but for our boy, it’s a successful end to a tournament which will hopefully see him return to North London confident and ready to fight for a place in the team.

We all know how difficult last season was for him, but a new season brings a clean slate and a chance to show everyone what a player he can be. Fingers crossed for him. I’m sure he’ll get a little break now after the tournament, but I also think he’ll be keen to get back with the group as soon as possible. You can’t let any of it pass you by.

We also played our first game of pre-season, a 1-1 draw with Watford behind closed doors at London Colney. The team was a mix of senior and young players, as you might expect at this point, and the goal was scored by Marquinhos. There’s a report and some highlights on the official site.

We’ve also had a first glimpse of Kai Havertz as an Arsenal player – alongside William Saliba wearing his new number. He really is tall, just get him into the gym for a bit to bulk up a little and hopefully he can have a happier time with us than he did at Stamford Bridge. Which isn’t to say that people in the past haven’t had a good time there, but I’d bet a lot of money that anyone who did is essentially a sociopath of some kind.

Havertz has dogs.

Beyond that, there’s not a lot going on. The team head for Germany today for a training camp, and a game later in the week. As for confirmation of the two deals we’re expecting, I’d be surprised if they did something on a Sunday, so it’ll probably be tomorrow which will be a nice way to kick off the week.

For now, enjoy your Sunday.
