Sunday round-up

Morning. Obviously it’s going to be a quiet one because of yesterday’s postponement. There can be no tales of the ruthless nutmegging of Lennie and his slack-jawed cohorts, no lauding the aerial display of Jack Wilshere who headed clear every single long throw from Rory Delap and nothing at all to be said of Robin van Persie’s controversial winner which was stabbed in, from an offside position, after he’d punched every single Stoke player in the face causing Tony Pubis to start a fight with Arsene Wenger meaning Gunnersaurus had to step in and stomp him good.

That. my good old friends, will have to wait for another day. When exactly the match might be played is anybody’s guess. I assume well into the new year, what with the schedule being fairly busy as it is. It also means that we’ve got 8/9 days to the Chelsea game and having last played on Monday it’ll be two weeks since our last match.

On the one hand you want the games but let’s face it, this is essentially a winter break which will allow rest, recuperation and for us to have no excuses of tiredness over the Christmas schedule. There are two games left in December, then 8 in January so in a way it might not be the worst thing in the world.

To ease the disappointment the club yesterday announced the signing of a Japanese striker called Ryo Miyaichi. He’s 18 and will join in January. I wonder though how he can get a work permit while Wellington’s application was booted out? Anyway, given his age and all I don’t see him anywhere near the first team any time soon. And how does he get to training? Inamoto! Sorry.

Jack Wilshere on his youthful impetuousness:

When I was younger I kept getting sin-bins or red cards. If I got kicked then my head would go a bit and instead of getting back at my opponent football-wise I’d retaliate straight away. Getting sent off and missing the rest of a game just wasn’t good for my development. I knew I had to curb it.

You do get the sense that there’s a side to him we haven’t quite seen yet but you have to give the young man his dues. He’s taken some hefty kicks this season – the Sp*rs game in the Carling Cup in particular – and has not reacted at all. If he had people might say ‘Well, he’s only 18, he’ll learn’ but you’re old enough at 18 to know better. And clearly he does.

Some of our on-loan players got a game yesterday. Some info here. Aaron Ramsey, and Arsene Wenger I suppose, might be disappointed with the lack of action but he did well when he came on by all accounts. I think there are still 4 games until the loan deal expires so plenty of time for him to get minutes under his belt. And the reports about Lansbury are very enouraging indeed. His loan is slightly different to Ramsey in that he’s being given a chance to show he’s ready for first team football and so far the signs are good.

Beyond that not much happening this Sunday morning. Thankfully we’ve escaped the snow so far. I hope that remains the case. Snow is the Teddy Sheringham of weather. Always popping up when you least want it and when it does you want to kick the shit out of it. Or something.

Have a good one. Back tomorrow with more nothing.
