It was all set up to for the Hollywood ending. Real Madrid were 1-0 down and had to win to take the title. Tom Cruise was watching his great buddy Beckham and clapping along to the soccerball frenzy. Surely Beckham would save the day with a great free kick then set up the winner in the last minute. Erm, no.
Actually, it wasn’t the white-toothed poster boy but the raised by wolves Andalucian José Antonio Reyes who stole the show. He came on for Beckham and with his first touch brought Madrid level, then after a rather fortuitous second which went in off a defender’s arse it was Reyes who sealed it for Madrid and brought the Bernebeu to its feet. He even made Tom Cruise kiss Katie Holmes and anyone who saw the look on her face will have laughed like I did. It was as if she was trying not to be sick.
What this will have done is add a few quid onto Reyes’ transfer value because he won’t be coming back to Arsenal. However, our attempts to sell him will be bolstered by the fact he’s the man who won the league for Real Madrid. Capello obviously told him “Go out and score or we’ll send you back to London”. What a motivator that man is.
In the end Barcelona’s 5-1 over ‘Nastic wasn’t enough and, much as I dislike Madrid, that made me laugh. Sorry my Barcelona chums, if any of you are reading this, but, you know, shove it up your holes.
So, Arsenal you say? Erm, not much I say. Poxy little Barcelona dwarf Ludovic Giuly has denied reports that Thierry Henry contacted him ahead of a move to Spain. Now, I might be recalling things incorrectly but of all the people in the entire world Giuly is the name who has cropped up most often about Henry and last season he was proclaiming quite publicly that he knew what Henry was going to do blah blah blah. Now he says it’s all bullshit. I suppose it’s easy to reconsider when you’ve spent the whole season on the bench.
Reading striker Leroy Lita says Justin Hoyte was racially abused during England U21s game against Serbia. I’d love to have faith in UEFA to sort it out but they’ve proved themselves rather toothless over these matters before.
And that’s really about it for this early stage of a Monday morning. Now that La Liga is over and done with I expect the transfer market and transfer rumour market to kick into overdrive with practically all of our players being linked with moves away from the club and absolutely nobody, apart from Vinnie Samways, coming in. It’ll be a joy.
