Well, it looks like those Hoyte/Poom/Swap rumours were right. There’s been no official confirmation but it seems that we will bring Mart Poom in for a season long loan while Justin Hoyte will get first team football at right-back because Sunderland don’t have one at the moment.
Whatever you might think about it bringing Poom in does give us decent, experienced cover for Jens Lehmann. He’s got about 43,000 caps for Estonia and given the fact we rejected Viera for having a benign cyst on his hip you’d have to think the rigorous medical he’d have gotten means his injury problems are behind him. Watch him break his hand in his first training session now. To my mind he’s a better keeper than Manuel and that, when we’re signing someone as a number 2, is all that matters. Also, an anagram of Mart Poom is Atom Romp and who wouldn’t want a nuclear powered sex-God in the squad?
“Pooooooooooooom, you chase the day away-ay-ay-ayaaaaaaaaaay…..”
In other news Arsene Wenger says he won’t be rushing back Sol Campbell who got a run out for the reserves 5-2 win over Leicester last night. The boss says “His fitness is very good, he just needs games now. He has not had one for a long, long time. The last one was against Birmingham in May. I don’t want to fix any time for his return, but he will come back into first-team contention at the time I think he is ready.”
Jermaine Jenas is going to Sp*rs for £8m according to today’s Sun. He’s a player we know the manager is interested in and we need a midfielder. Sp*rs, meanwhile, have a collection of midfielders so large they could start their own eBay shop.
The transfer window is open until 11.59pm tonight. Will Poom be the only one in? Probably, although if Myles says we’re not signing anyone else there’s a good chance we’ll bring at least two more.
