Arseblog: Wednesday 24th August 2005

August 24th

Football is funny. Football websites can also be funny even if they don’t mean it. Early yesterday afternoon our great chum Myles (this seasons AGM report can be yours for just £9.99, sir!) wrote a piece from which I quote now. Entitled ‘Wenger won’t sign anybody in the next 8 days‘, he said “I was told last night that new players will NOT be signed before the August 31 deadline. Let’s hope that information is wrong. It comes from an impeccable source. And I believe it.”

Not too long afterwards an article appeared on Arsenal.con in which Arsene Wenger said “We will sign a goalkeeper before the end of the transfer window but I do not know who yet.”

Unless the keeper is N. Obody you’ve just got to laugh. It’s not going to be that Rene Adler bloke though. However, the boss did rule out any outfield signings and it seems that Alex ‘Rigobert’ Song has been handed the number 17 jersey for this season so he’s likely to be our 4th choice central midfielder for the next 9 months. Gestationtacular.

Ahead of tonight’s game against Fulham we’ll be without Freddie Ljungberg whose injury is not as serious as first thought but is still bad enough to rule him out tonight. Dennis Bergkamp will also have a late fitness test but José Antonio Reyes should be included after being left out after picking up a knock in training just before the Chelsea game.

Arsene Wenger on Chelsea and his footballing philosophy. “It’s all Chelsea right now but it shows you how funny it is because they could have had no points and now they have six. The two games that Chelsea have played do not suggest to me they are the dominant force in English football.”

And it’s true. Crespo’s goal against Wigan was a good one but coming so late in the game you have suggest they had a bit of luck while that hideous cunt Drogba’s goal was offside and a fluke. However, everyone, including some of our fans, sees Chelsea as unstoppable when that’s far from the truth based on their first two performances. They struggle to get going and they’re slow-starters. We struggle to get going and we’re dooooooomed. It’s a funny old game.

104-0 to Arsenal tonight. Hleb with a baker’s dozen.
