Arseblog: Thursday 18th August 2005

August 18th

Well at this stage it seems all our players got through last night’s game without any problems. Which is good.

England got smashed 4-1 by Denmark. Maybe they could have done with Sol Campbell but as we all know he’s too fat injured and can’t play. I did find it funny that Philippe Christanval still has hopes of joining Arsenal but decided to go public with the news that Sol asked to leave this summer. It was only a few days ago that Wenger said Christanval wouldn’t be joining because we didn’t lose a defender which could make you think he was planning for event. Anyway, even if Sol did leave now you’d have to think Christanval has fucked up any chance of joining by airing our dirty laundry in public. Plus he’s kind of shite. It does leave the Sol issue out there though, perhaps the manager’s recent words have sparked a positive reaction from him although his assertion that people were out to get him for the colour of his skin smacks of paranoia.

Patrick Vieira reckons Arsenal looked ‘sharp’ in the Community Shield and Kolo Toure has backed Cesc to step up now that Vieira has gone. Also in the frame for central midfield this season is new loan signing Alex Song and on the Arsenal website reserve team coach Neil Banfield said “The manager’s found another top-class young central midfielder,” and they did a minute by minute thing on his performance. It might just be that there’s a little bit of PR going on here as reports from the game say the player did ok and was strong in the tackle but his distribution wasn’t great and he looked unfit and nowhere near ready for first team action. If he is to be the fourth choice central midfield players let’s hope he gets up to speed and fast. I’d still prefer a signing though.

Philippe Senderos says he won’t be thinking about the last game he played against Didier Drogba and that he’ll be learning from games like that. He says “In every game you can’t do everything well so you have to think about it, work on what you did wrong and get better next time. You should always watch yourself and try to get better every day.”

Thierry reckons Chelsea are afraid of us. He points to their Community Shied performance, saying “What did Chelsea do that day? Only defend. Besides, they defend each time they play us whereas it’s different with other rivals. The way Chelsea played against us the other day is, to me, like a form of respect. So they fear us.”

I can see the logic which is quite something because I’m blind with tiredness this morning. Nearly the weekend though. Nearly.
