Arseblog: Monday 22nd August 2005

August 22nd

It’s my sad duty to report that the world ended yesterday evening at around 5.55pm GMT. The worst tragedy ever to occur took place when Graham Poll blew the full time whistle and Arsenal lost 1-0 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Arsenil...

It wasn’t a particularly good game, neither team played well. Arsenal lacked cohesion and forward motion, Chelsea did their usual 10 men behind the ball and hoof a long ball to the winger thing.

The first five minutes saw Jens make a good save when Duff got behind Ashley Cole and from the subsequent corner Freddie cleared off the line. Then it settled down in a game of possession without too many clear chances. Late in the first half Jens made another good save when Lampard crossed to old man Robben.

The second half was more of the same, we never really threatened despite having lots of the ball and then they got a goal. A quick free kick found an obviously offside Didier Dogbag and as he tried in vain to control the ball it bobbled in off his shin. Truly he is one of the most enormous cunts in the world right now – right down to baiting his own fans after he scored. A class act, for sure.

That did spark us into life a little bit. Henry had a decent effort saved by Cech and we pushed men forward but to little effect really. 1-0 it finished and although we didn’t play well we didn’t deserve to lose the game by any means. However, in this live for the moment world we live in the reaction from some quarters has been hysterical and over the top.

Let me quote from the arses, the comments system on here. This was just after yesterday’s game. ” Henry can fuck off right now! RIGHT NOW!!!! Did that piece of shit even break into a sweat?”

Yes, that piece of shit that has been magnificent for us since he joined. He can fuck off. Fucking beautiful, isn’t it? Like all of you I hate when we lose. I especially hate when we lose to Chelsea and I especially hate when we lose to Chelsea and that cunt Drogba flukes the winner but what I hate most about losing these days is the proliferation of cunts who are just waiting to have a moan about this that and the other. I fully accept that people have different views, it’s normal, it’s what makes football a great game. We can banter back and forward and we don’t have to agree but this kind of over the top shite is really annoying now. We’re two games into the season and already the knives are out.

I will not argue that Henry had a quiet game yesterday, the same way I wouldn’t argue with anyone who would suggest that Robert Pires needs to realise he has responsibilities to the team in his own half as well. I’m still of the opinion that we need a signing in midfield and, while Jens was really good today, I still think we could do with a keeper for the reasons outlined in my pre-season review and I’m as flummoxed as the rest of you as to the non-selection of Reyes yesterday. However, I cannot stand people slagging off our players at the first chance they get. I swear some people prefer us to lose so they can have a moan. It’s one game, it’s only the second game of the season and the short-sightedness, the inability of people to see things in context and perspective is frightening. There are people who use this site whose outlook on things is more pessemistic than mine but they can explain why, their arguments are well presented (mostly) and they don’t just moan for the sake of it. Then there are the ones who can’t cope with any defeat and want to change everything, buy 6 new players before the next game and spend the week calling our players cunts. It’s hard to fathom. Do they get any enjoyment from football at all? It’s just a shame that the support our players need won’t be forthcoming from some sections of our ‘fans’.

You’d think Chelsea beat us 10-0 yesterday. To my mind there was nothing between the teams really. A little more attacking zip yesterday and we could easily have nicked it. They look a solid team, no question, when you play as defensively as they do that’s to be expected but they didn’t look leagues ahead of us in any respect. I won’t be afraid of them when they come to Highbury. At the end of the day they won with an offside fluke shinned in by a hideous Predator looking cunt.

I’ll tell you one thing I’d like to see though is someone who can take corners. Honestly, I don’t know why Pires doesn’t just nick it out for a goal kick so we can regroup and not get caught on the break. They never, never get past the first man and for a guy who can score a great free kick like we saw against some cunts (forget) at the end of last season I find it amazing that he can’t take a corner. He’s not the only one either. Here’s what I suggest fellas, try and curl it in somewhere between the 6 yard box and the penalty spot. Most often the defence will clear it but once in a while one of our players will get a header to it and score a goal.

We’ll find out later today the extent of Freddie Ljungberg’s injury, he left the game on crutches unable to walk. An x-ray was clear but a scan will be needed today to find out what exactly is wrong. Final word to the boss who says “I hope this defeat will have the reverse effect to losing to Manchester United at Old Trafford last year. I want a great season for the club. I can’t accept anything else.”
