Boro preview

Right, so. A little earlier today, but I have a very busy morning organising people, arranging things, and being places, so it’s going to be a very quick one today.

Firstly, I would like to publish a minor correction: yesterday’s game is in fact today, as you will probably know. I don’t know why I thought it was yesterday, but there it is. It was probably the considerable amount of *boilk* that was required even to get up yesterday morning at all. Today is not so bad.

Second order of business is what is surely the most important news of the SEASON (and I have this from a completely unverified and thoroughly untrustworthy source close to the tournament’s organising committee), which is that the GREEN team triumphed at yesterday’s Arseblog five-a-sides tournament! Now, I’m sure I could probably verify this claim by spending about two minutes on the forum, or text messaging any number of people, but like any other lazy hack, I’m going to go with my completely unreliable 1am text message from a drunken Arseblogger relaying the information. Hell, if the tabloids can make stuff up on less grounds than that, I don’t see why I can’t too.

So many congratulations to the GREEN team (or whoever did actually win the tournament). You deserve all the credit so you do. All of it. And you deserve everything you get today as well.

The manager has made some observations about the new 50% rate of income tax in the UK for earners over £150k, saying that he thinks it’s bad news for both English clubs in general, and their ability to retain and buy new players. I imagine there’s all sorts of ways that accountants can avoid them having to pay the new rate, but even if there aren’t, is it really that much to ask millionaires many times over to pay the extra tax? I dunno. Perhaps. I’d have thought more important was the decline in the value of Sterling against the Euro. But this isn’t Econoblog. Go somewhere else for your economics news.

Ahead of the Champions’ League tie, Amy Lawrence has a good piece in The Observer today about the history of bad blood between us and United.

Finally for today, team news ahead of *today’s* game at 1.30pm (it’s on Sky for anyone that’s interested): it’s the same as yesterday when I thought the game actually was.

That’s your lot. May those of you with horrific hangovers suffer only briefly, before punishing yourselves again later today.

Oh, and I’ve had that fucking Harry Redknapp song going round in my head again all day since I read his post match comments yesterday. Sweet Jesus it gets in your head.

*he’s got a twitch…*

Until next time, Arseurs.
