With the sale of Lassana Diarra and the obvious decline of Gilberto the midfield situation at Arsenal is a strange one. Not least because one of the players of the season, Mathieu Flamini, has yet to sign a new deal. His contract runs out in June or July, at which point he can leave on a Bosman.
It would be a big blow to lose him, but there are signs that we should be hopeful. Speaking to the official Arsenal magazine the Flamster says:
I'm talking with the club. You know, I am very happy here and have some close friends. I really hope that I'll be staying here and I'm very optimistic about it.Arsenal is my priority and I hope that everything gets sorted out because I love this club, the atsmosphere is amazing - the new stadium, the supporters, everything. We're creating a new story here and I want to be part of that story.

Wenger is amazing!!
He lets Diarra go!!
Flamini gets injured, then what?
We get walloped by Derby 6-0
Thats seems to be where we are headed
We are frajile in the midfield as was shown at whiteheart lane
Gilberto travelled to brazil
and his twin brother Jilberto comes in
Cos I cant understand how his form could ve dipped so quickly.
We lost that game because "Jilberto" was crap and cos Diaby never comes to the pitch with his brains thats why he looses the ball that frequently.
Pls Pls Arsene buy cover for Flamini cos we aint got none
This is encouraging--it was worrying to hear that he had not signed a contract yet, but this sounds like he wants to stay. I can't imagine why he wouldn't. He's an established first team player now, he's young and has a chance to win trophies at Arsenal. Oh and he gets to play *football* at Arsenal.
yea..i think the middle of the field is the area of least concern..wev got 6 players to do the job there..gilberto is just rusty..thats all..hes a real hero..gilberto,lehmann as well...
[...] future’s still in doubt but he’s said in this months magazine that Arsenal is his priority and that talks our on going. I think he’s going to stay but it is quite worrying as time [...]
It wasn't so long ago we were questioning Wenger's stockpiling of central midfielders, maybe he knows much more than we think we do.
Arsene will bide his time and ride this storm out.
Flamini will sign.
This is good news, though I never doubted that he would'nt stay, he's waited for his first team place and having achieved that goal to now walk away would not make sense. All of his actions, whether on or off the pitch indicate to me a very committed team member
Who are all these bloody people, Blogs ?
Are you writing these comments yourself ?
Tsk.

Mathieu NDP Flamini wants ND = Arseblogger's dream come true.
Great news.
Flamini is better to finish his carrier at Arsenal, otherwise he is going to find himself in the bush
[...] squad again. I’m not really sure how much rotation he can do. Rosicky, Hleb, Cesc, Flamini (NDP coming soon?) should all start, Adebayor and Eduardo can come back in, we might see Jens in goal and we’ll [...]
you go flamstar. need to sign that contract quick, quick, quick.,
I think Diaby should be playing at Flam's place, as he's just like Viera (with long legs!). Stop playing on the wings pls, professor!? Make him a sub for Flamster and sell Gilberto before everybody recognize his incompetence...Go Gunners GO!
Flam should be given a 50k pounds per week deal his performance had been above par dis season........Go Flam, Go Gunners
i want to see him next season play with arsenal.
so pls don't leave!!!!!!!!!!!
