Welcome back, number 6

Gah. I’m late again (but still not hungover – I’ll put that right tonight; maybe even this afternoon, who knows?).

The Sun reckons that it’s all over between Arsenal and Ashley Cole because Cole hasn’t invited Arsene Wenger to his marriage tomorrow. Or something like that. They reckon the book Cole’s about to publish that basically says Arsenal are a bunch of cunts has got something to do with it too. I dunno, I don’t want to lose a player as good as he is, but if he’s going to act the prick about what happened and can’t see that he did wrong, and that he’s where is today because of Arsenal and the manager (yes, as well as his own talent), then he can fuck off. Unfortunately since Chelsea are looking for a left back, that could well be where he ends up. Madrid need a replacement for hopeless, one-trick pony Roberto Carlos too mind.

Still no transfers done, with it having gone a bit quiet on the Saviola front, and Bryan Robson insisting Curtis Davies isn’t leaving. There was some talk – which might even have started on a WBA blog, I think – that they might be interested if we were to sweeten any deal by giving them one of Walcott, Lupoli or Bendter on loan until Christmas to help with their promotion challenge. Walcott’s agent has denied it, saying the player was delighted that Thierry Henry signed a new deal because he loves working with him. I can’t see it either, but you never know.

Today should see the result of the match-fixing trial in Italy, so maybe we’ve been holding out to see whether we can nab any of their players on the cheap. Given the choice, I’d take, oooh, Cannavaro, Thuram or Zebina, Buffon (bit harsh on Jens that one), Ibrahimovic (I know he’s a cunt of galactic proportions, but he’s an excellent player and his World Cup showing wouldn’t have done his price any harm), Zambrotta maybe. Who’s their left back? Given that transfer fees are rarely paid all at once, maybe they still owe us money for Vieira. I wouldn’t have him back, I don’t think, but wherever he goes might have a player we’re interested in. I wonder if any of their players have clauses in their contracts that allow them to leave for free if the club are relegated.

Must be shit to be a Juventus fan right now. I’m sure Blogger would want me to point out that it serves them right, the Chippy stealing cunts.

In more positive news, the lights have been turned on at the new stadium, and the club’s website has some nice pictures of it looking all glowy in the dark, and another player has been given a shirt with a bit of history – Phil Senderos will wear number six next season. Good stuff.

Anyway, I think Blogger is back from holiday tomorrow, so I’m not sure whether it’s the delight of more of my company you’ll get, or a return to normal service. If he’s back, it’s been a pleasure as always.

Happy Friday!

£10m for Curtis Davies?

Very quick one today, as I’m very late for lots of things for which I mustn’t be late.

Several sources reckon we’ve signed Saviola for £4m. If true, it seems an absolute steal. More on that if/when it happens.

Apparently West Brom want £10m for Curtis Davies. I’m starting to wonder if he’s worth that sort of money. I know we need a centre-back, but has he done enough to warrant that sort of price tag? I dunno. He’s only 21 or something too. Speaking of centre-backs not worth the money, apparently our old friend Igors Stepanovs is threatening to come back to the Premiership with Watford. *Shudder*.

Arsene Wenger has told everyone what everyone already knew which is that there’s fuck all chance of Fabregas going to Real this summer. I don’t know who, if anyone, buys the Real presidential candidates’ bullshit (other bullshit merchants, presumably), but it’s really very tiresome. I suppose we’ll have to get used to it with Cesc though, considering he’s (quite honestly) admitted he’d like to go back to Spain at some point. Can’t imagine he’d ever want to play for those cunts though; it’ll be Barca if anyone. According to The Guardian, AW’s comments were made at the player’s request because he wanted to draw a line under it, which is nice. The article also mentions, for those that didn’t already know – like me – that Cesc will be wearing the number 4 shirt next season.

Finally, that one measley offering above, I’m sorry there’s been no hyperlinking to any of the stories I’ve been making up. It’s actually very easy with WordPress, but well, I’d have to be arsed, have the time, and the inclination. Don’t worry, normal service will be resumed very soon.

Have you noticed I haven’t been hungover once this week? That’s how cunting busy I am. I’ll fix that tomorrow night with some lovely red wine. If I’m not too busy.

Eugh. I hate being busy.

More of the same

Nothing new has happened since yesterday.

The Curtis Davies rumours are gathering pace, with various people reporting an £8m bid, which doubtless means it won’t happen. It’s been a long-standing one that though, so maybe there is something to it. The story I’d heard, probably from round here somewhere, was that we were waiting until someone else (i.e. Sp*rs) had a bid accepted, and would then match it and let the player choose. Or maybe I just made that up. Who knows – or cares?

Real are apparently continuing their policy of going after players we’re supposedly interested in, and have offered £26m for Ribery. They can fucking have him at that price, the lunatics. According to The Indie, they’re “poised” to make offers for Reyes and Fabregas. I can see Jose going, unfortunately, but I’d imagine they’ve got zero chance of getting Cesc.

I’ve always thought “poised” was a funny footballing cliche. There was a headline on the BBC Sport site during the World Cup saying “England poised to wait on Rooney”. Isn’t that an oxymoron?

Saviola’s agent says “He will make his decision based on football and that points to the Gunners”, and he’ll make a decision this week because he wants to get it sorted out before his holidays. Good, because then they’re be something interesting to write about other than tenuous rumours which may or may not be true. Plus he’d be a good acquisition, of course. It’s worth remembering it’s all the talk of an agent though.

Anyway, that’s all for today. Hopefully something interesting will happen in the next couple of days!

And it’s still not cunting Friday. Doh!

Don't mention their names

Because if you do, it might not happen.

So the World Cup is over and it’s back to making up stories about what’s not happening. I felt a bit empty last night with no football to watch, but I’m so busy at work I’ve barely got time to notice anyway.

The Zidane nonsense goes on, with various lip-readers and other ‘experts’ variously claiming that Materazzi called him a terrorist (I don’t think Materazzi has the wit to understand why that might be offensive to Zidane, or that Zidane would’ve risen to it), or that Materazzi came up with the slightly more plausible “your mum does it for free”. Apparently ZZ’s mum’s not well just now so maybe he caught him at a bad time. ZZ certainly caught Materazzi at a bad time, though he did catch him very well.

So .. erm .. yeah, not much tangible happening Arsenal-wise. The rumours about Saviola and Yaya Toure persist, with quotes from various places from the latter saying he wants “to play for the same team as his brother.” I think he’d be a good addition, especially if he can flourish like Kolo. Maybe there’s another brother somewhere and we could have a spine of Kolos, in defence, midfield and up front. Maybe that’s just wishful thinking. Kolo spine good. Kolo like Kolo spine. Mmm…spine.

Stephen Appiah says “50% of me is coming to Arsenal”. If that’s true, we better get the other 50% too or I really don’t see the point. I did like the look of him at the World Cup. Admittedly that’s the first time I’ve seen him really – don’t remember seeing him play for Juve – so I’m not sure he’s any better/different than Yaya. He does have a very round head though. Does that help or hinder when heading the ball? Would Kryten make a good target man?

Following France’s World Cup Final loss, the rumours regarding Ribery recommence, with the player saying he’d “love to play for a big club in England – and nothing would be more ideal than to be with a French coach”. I assume he knows Gerrard Houllier is no longer at Liverpool and that Reggie Perrins-looking cunt that was at Portsmouth has fucked off. I dunno about him. Not sure where he’d fit in and he seems to be all promise and no end product. And he does look unsettlingly like Gary Neville to me, unfortunate scar apart. He was certainly gash (sorry) during the group stages, but then so was the rest of the French team, but like Frankenstein, he came alive later on (doubly sorry; it’s not like I’m not already going to hell anyway).

The Daily Telegraph (amongst others) are reporting that we’re ready to offer £8m for curtis Davies. Now I think he would be a good signing. Centre-back is certainly one of the places we need reinforcements after the enormous, Desperate Dan-sized gap that’s been left by Sol Campbell’s departure.

Anyway, that’s your lot. Tuesday. Bah. Still not Friday.
