Interlull ahoy

Good morning from the wesht of Ireland again.

To the people who emailed me yesterday asking why there was no Arshavin content in the blog despite the title, well, I just meant it was a little short. As you might imagine there is a similar dearth of material today, just like yesterday, and today’s blog could be Time Bandit sized.

There are a few bits and pieces though. The Mirror, for example, suggests that Arsene Wenger will have input into who succeeds him at Arsenal when he decides to step down/move on/take the Engerland job. They suggest Pep Guardiola is the main candidate, which would be a real test for him. Let’s see how good you are without that Lionel Richie bloke who wins you all the games.

Others names mentioned include Dennis Bergkamp. It sounds great but a manager needs to be with his team when they play in Europe and Dennis doesn’t like to fly. Of course this could all be part of Arsene’s great plan. Why would Dennis need to fly anywhere if Arsenal aren’t in Europe next season. Method to the goddam madness, you see?

Steve Bould is also tipped as a possible candidate if we decide to promote from within and his history with the club, and his working his way to the topness, might make him the ideal man. One name not mentioned though is Dragan Stojkovic. Have a read of this to see why he might just be the man beknighted by the sword of Arsene.

And to those of you who might not like the idea of Arsene choosing his successor, I’ve got not no issue with it. I’m told Stan Kroenke is a massive fan of John Gregory.

Meanwhile, Robin van Persie reckons we’ll turn things around. He says:

I have every trust in the things we are doing within the club. There is only a fine line between winning and losing. Just look at our last match against Spurs. We could have won that game with the chances we had. There is no need to panic for anyone.

Our start is not good. I would have felt better if we had won the derby. We didn’t and right now there is a negative feeling. But I assure you, it is not all that negative. It is up to us, players and staff, to sort it out on the pitch.

That’s good talking from the captain but the talking he’s doing needs to be matched by performing on the pitch. And I don’t necessarily mean from Robin but from everyone. Anyway, I think we all know that. It’s good to talk, and stuff, but it’s also good to score more goals than you let in and that’s got to be the main focus right now.

Beyond that some vague transfer link with Salomon Kalou and talk of another protest against Arsene Wenger by another group of fans is pretty much all there is this morning. If you ask me those fans should protest against Salomon Kalou because his head is really, really tiny. I know there’s a line, we don’t need anyone with a head the size of David Dunn for example, but Kalou’s head is both tiny and pointy. It looks as if you might smart your funny bone if you tried to elbow him and I would refuse to accept somebody with that kind of head at Arsenal.

Anyway, at some point there will come a time when some group of Arsenal fans will announce a protest against another group of Arsenal fans because they’re not protesting well enough.

Not me though. I’ll just have a fuckin’ beer.
