Sunday round-up – Trabelsi linked again

So Freddie goes home and Jens stays at home after Germany beat Sweden 2-0. The game saw yet another ridiculous red card and the referees are fast becoming the main talking point of the tournament, not the football.

Then last night Argentina beat Mexico 2-1 in a very exciting game and Maxi Rodriguez scored an awesome winner but again the referee got it wrong. Gabriel Heinze should have seen red for a tackle in the first half and you now you have to wonder whether or not there are different rules for the ‘big’ teams in this World Cup.

Would a German player have been sent off like Lucic yesterday? Absolutely not. Would last night’s referee have brandished a red to a Mexican if he’d taken down Crespo like Heinze did to Fonseca? I’d put money on it.

The officials are so quick to flourish their cards for stupid things and the guy smiling as he sent off Lucic yesterday was nothing short of scandalous. However, when it comes to making a big decision like Heinze’s tackle they bottle it. Absolute rubbish and their assistants are no better. If they are referee’s assistants then they need to assist, if not let’s just call them linesmen again.

A big day today as England play Ecuador and Sven had better hope his tinkering works. I honestly can’t believe he’s going to play Owen Hargreaves at right back. England are going 4-5-1 so it should make for a really exciting game… *cough*.

Later on Holland play Portugal and that should be a cracker. Two teams whose footballing philosophy makes Sven look like the dullard he really is. Robin van Persie should play for the Dutch especially as rumours abound that Ruud van Nistelrooy will be dropped.

There was bad news for Philippe Senderos as he was ruled out of the rest of the tournament after dislocating his shoulder. He has also suffered ligament damage and the Swiss doctor says there’s a 50% chance he’ll need an operation. Hopefully it won’t come to that but it’s a big shame for Phil who had done well. His place will be taken by fellow Gunner Johan Djourou.

The Sunday Mirror is reporting that Gael Clichy will not be fit until mid-September and you have to really start to wonder if he’ll ever get back to full fitness. Lauren too will reportedly miss the first month of the season with his knee injury. Further to that we’re linked again with a move for Hatem Trabelsi with his agent saying:

There’s a contract ready for, him at Arsenal. I can show you that. Hatem definitely wants to play in the Champions League and he’s not going to stay in Holland.

Gunnerblog has some pictures of the new kit if that thing floats your boat. I’m just happy to see red and white back again. I’ve missed you, red and white!

Ok, time for some breakfast. Till tomorrow, Arsers.
